Letters
Letter from Hanna I thought your letter was very good and told the truth about what really
happens to racehorses. I have been riding for 11 years and I am only 12 so I have been around
horses for nearly the whole of my life. I recently grew out of my 13.2 part
bred Arab and am now riding my mums ex racehorse called Selly. My mum worked
at a racehorse stud and there she met Selly. She liked her and used to watch
her race. One day she banged her knee on the starting gate and her owners we
going to sell her to the slaughterhouse. My mum couldn't bear to see her go
so she bought her and kept her at the stables. Now, 14 years later at the age of 16 she is fit and healthy. Her knee is
still swollen and she his a bit of a bad back because she was trained before
she could develop properly. I have to be careful when riding her but I still
take her for gallops which she enjoys. She has got everything she needs
food, water, companions and love. Thank you for writing the letter. From Hannah aged 12 From Animal defenders of Westchester Hi Hannah, Thank you so very much for your inspiring, compassionate letter. When I
was your age, all I thought about was my hairdo and boys! Young people such
as yourself are truly the 'bright lights' of this world; to hear from people
like yourself makes me think there is truly hope for the animals to have a
better life. Thank you for speaking for 'those who have no voice and no choice.' May
you and your family have a blessed life! Kiley ANIMAL DEFENDERS OF WESTCHESTER
