A Ballot Initiative To End Horse-Drawn Carriages?

Letter as published on NY Daily News
July 15, 2023

Tuckahoe:  It's a shame that Frank McGann thinks immigrants aren't smart enough to do anything but ride around in horse-pulled carriages all day. People from all walks of life have adapted to changing times; seen a Blockbuster Video recently?  Kodak? Life has changed course repeatedly due to technology, automation etc; of course, in this cash-only business McGann has ample reason to resist.

When money and animals are involved, the animals always lose; always. McGann cites supposed 'monetary benefits' animal advocates reap; but I've never wanted or gotten a dime from it; in fact most of our animal advocacy efforts came out of our own pockets. I applaud Elizabeth Forel's suggestion for a ballot initiative on this issue: It's an inspired example of democracy in action, especially for the profoundly voiceless in our society.
