In a shocking development, IDA learned late last week that the USDA is forcing Queenie's transfer to the San Antonio Zoo as part of a settlement agreement with circus handler Will Davenport for federal animal welfare charges against him. The zoo's tiny and inadequate display is unfit even for the one elephant it presently holds, the misnamed Lucky.

Sending Queenie to this zoo is particularly egregious since the PAWS Sanctuary had made a formal offer to give her a home that would provide the highest possible quality of life, including the choice of elephant companions, 50 acres of habitat to roam, and a rich natural environment.
