The Flock That Christendom Forgot: An Animal Padre’s Uphill Pilgrimage
Episode 20
Classic Antiques and Animal Rights
I thank God for the owner of Renaissance Restorations For within an
Aberdeen suburb stood a shop renowned for selling antiques of the
highest calibre, and as a consequence, attracting clientele with a
shrewd eye for that which is of inestimable value.
Strangely,
however, - and truly remarkable! - the owner was far more concerned
about protecting defenceless animals than in furthering a sale. In
fact, he told me that whether he made a sale or not never bothered him
at the end of the day. 'What does uplift me,' he added, 'is if someone
shows interest in the literature you have left with me. If they pick
up one of your tracts from a chair then I feel I have made the
greatest sale of all!' he said, 'and I can then go home with a
peaceful conscience'.
Such a fellow told me that I must never
worry about money matters. 'You've put the true work of God foremost
in your life,' he said, 'so, take my word for it, you will want for
nothing materially!' I have lived to prove the truth of his godly
counsel. He, along with his lovely wife and a most spiritual brother
have been a godsend to me during times of opposition.
On almost
every piece of valuable antique furniture would be an assortment of
literature, much of which I'd amateurishly published myself. And
obliterating much of the shop window from the outside would be posters
advertising either an animal blessing service, an anti-vivisection
rally, anti-hunt, or else some newspaper cuttings on what had already
occurred. Hardly surprising that pro-vivisectors and abusers had
sought removal of the same via the council, yet always without an inch
of success! The Bible says: "The righteous are as bold as a lion', and
Alan (the proprietor) lived up to it. Just as he did when I prayed
outside the evil gates of Dounrey nuclear plant in far off Thurso,
Alan being a rock of support at my side.
