Not Prophets, But More Aptly Termed ‘Puppy Dogs!’
Yes, indeed, down the centuries and clearly in this one as well as
the last, Anglican clergy have come across as puppy dogs for leading
political parties in preference to being prophets for God! Let me
elaborate: they mostly look around to find what parties most folk vote
for; and in order to be popular, they give their blessing to these.
And, consequently, Doreen and I are old enough to have witnessed the
results of this weakness, fully developed, in Germany as well as here
in Britain:
Adolph Hitler - a confirmed Roman Catholic in
common with most of his party’s leaders - received the support and
blessing of the Catholic church throughout most of his reign. Indeed,
only when it became obvious that Nazism was clearly starting to lose
the war, did several clerics start to openly criticize the atrocious
evils that he and his party had committed!
And, just in case we
Protestants become a little vain and consider the leading Protestant
churches to have openly held a less honouring view of Hitler, they
need to remember that Goering was – or had been – a practising
Lutheran! Indeed, ‘the state established Lutheran Church’ at that
time hailed Hitler as a kind of lesser Messianic figure out to bless
and prosper the Fatherland and its people!
In fact, so ‘cuddled
up’ to the Nazi party were the two leading branches of Germany’s
Christendom that Hitler insisted that every citizen in the land was
duty bound to finance one or other of the two leading branches of
Christendom in the land. Consequently, these two branches of professed
Christianity financially flourished until nearing the end of Hitler’s
tyrannical reign of horror.
Meanwhile, outside of Germany
itself, and in countries, which Adolph Hitler and his ilk had
conquered, things were usually quite different. Indeed, for but one
example, members of the Greek Orthodox churches, gathered with Roman
Catholics, were asked to make the sign of the cross in order to show
that they were unashamedly Christians. And, in all innocence, they
crossed themselves from right to left – in contrast to the Roman
catholic way of left to right. And for this, multitudes forfeited
their lives: including scores of women and children.
Such a
latter practice, of course, was much in line with an agreement that
had been made before war between Britain and Germany commenced. For in
1933 the one to become Pope Pius the Twelfth signed a Concordat with
Hitler under a promise if he, Hitler, would give favourable
concessions to the Catholic Church (over all other branches of
Christianity) then they could work mutually and affably together.
Indeed, before long, the choice for so many in Yugoslavia became
conversion to Catholicism or of extermination for remaining Otthodox
Indeed, the last evidence of such a collusion between Nazism and
Catholicism then working together is reflected in the way that -
following the cessation of this horrific ‘World War Two’ - so many
notorious Nazis guilty of the most ‘horrendous war crimes’ against
humanity, found secret sanctuary in several Catholic monasteries
within different parts of the post war western world. Believe me,
this is all very true, and not at all made up by myself!
A most
balanced documentary made by the BBC in 1945 confirms it all, and was
presented by an unbiased Catholic commentator: none other than Richard
Dimbleby.
According to it around one hundred thousand guilty of horrendous
war crimes against humanity escaped capture and a colossal number were
helped to escape from a just trial through being hidden in Catholic
monasteries, and some even temporarily disguised as clergy. Indeed,
the Vatican, two Popes, many clergy – and believe it or not:- some
officials in ‘Western Intelligence’ had colluded in this affront to
justice. And, indeed, as a consequence, some Nazi war criminals may be
alive in South America today, having lived their life there undetected
and in safety.
