TOPIC FOR THE FIRST CHAT ON JUNE 7TH:
"Terminator and Traitor Technology"
The USDA, spending public money, has developed a
technology, being called
Terminator Technology by some, to create plants that will not reproduce.
Several multi-billion dollar companies are getting in on the action in
order to
make billions of dollars by putting an end to the age-old practice of
farmers
being able to save their seeds to grow crops the following season. With
these
new plants that cannot propagate, farmers will be forced to return to
the
companies selling these seeds in order to buy seeds that will actually
grow
into plants. One such company standing to gain a fortune with this new
technology is the worlds dominant biotech company, Monsanto, with an
estimated worth of $35 billion dollars and one of the biggest
contributors to the
Clinton campaign, as well as to both the Democratic and Republican
parties.
Isn't the USDA supposed to be concerned about our
health? Why then are they
working to pass a patent for this new technology which has actually been
scientifically proven to cause "stunted growth, weakened immune systems,
and
damage to vital organs"? Could it be because the technology is worth an
estimated 1.5 BILLION dollars a year in licensing fees alone, and the
USDA is
LICENSING the technology to the companies selling the seeds?
When a crop of these plants that cannot propagate is
grown next to a natural,
traditional crop, it is actually possible that the genetically modified
plants can
take over the natural crop through pollen being carried by wind,
insects, and
birds. As one person put it, "This is the ultimate in Capitalism. We're
going to
remove nature's ability to propagate herself, so we can charge money for
that
privilege."
There is much more to know about this technology, which
we'll focus on during
our chat. We'll also discuss Traitor Technology, which is the term given
to
certain kinds of genetically modified food which is ALREADY being sold.
Chances are, when you eat french fries at McDonald's, you may be
consuming
potatoes that have been genetically modified and are actually legally
registered
as pesticides by the EPA. Why? Because the potato will kill Colorado
potato
beetles if they take even a tiny bite of one. You'll find out during the
chat how
scientists changed every cell in the potato to contain a bacteria that
kills these
beetles, but at what cost to our health and to the environment?
