Thick-billed Kingbird
(Tyrannus crassirostris)
This is a robust species of Tyrant Flycatcher native to western Mexico, although the range does extend north across the border into Arizona and New Mexico, and south across Mexico’s other border into Guatemala. The amount of yellow on the belly varies according to the degree of feather-wear, and they are lacking in rusty-red in the wings or tail, or white outer tail feathers.
Amazingly enough, one once showed up in Ontario.
The painting is gouache watercolour on compressed hardboard, approximately life-size.
