‘Empty The Tanks Worldwide’ shows support for the Lumni Totem Pole ceremony honoring Tokatae, the whale taken from the Puget Sound 50 years ago and put into captivity in a sea aquarium where she remains today.
‘Empty The Tanks Worldwide’ shows support for the Lumni Totem Pole ceremony honoring Tokatae, the whale taken from the Puget Sound 50 years ago and put into captivity in a sea aquarium. The Seaquarium renamed her ‘Lolita’.
According to the Lummi Nation, and others, in 1970, over 40 orca were brutally captured from the Salish Sea in northwest Washington and taken to marine parks around the world. Tokitae (renamed ‘Lolita’) is the sole survivor.
The Lummi Nation is working to bring Tokitae home, and to raise awareness about a local story of resilience and healing. Reps for any aquariums are invited on anytime to tell their side.
