This Easter holiday season, please make the compassionate choice and skip the chicken on your plate and instead opt for a delicious, healthy plant-based option...for Minerva, for Luna, and for billions of other unfortunate chickens like them.

Each year, in the United States alone, more than 9 billion (that's "billion" with a "b") chickens are farmed for their flesh while another 300 million suffer a similar fate for their eggs. In our age of industrialized food production chickens have become the most slaughtered land animal on the planet. And it only keeps getting worse...

Undercover video footage tecently filmed by supporters of In Defense of Animals from inside a typical factory farm shines a light on the dire circumstances endured by "broiler" hens as well as the sheer magnitude of suffering imposed by large scale factory farms that we have conditioned ourselves to blindly ignore.

Overcrowding. Growth too fast for their little bodies to handle. Dead chicks cannibalized by the living. And all of it is shockingly legal. The U.S. federal Animal Welfare Act completely and specifically excludes chickens from protection.

It is a nightmare of epic proportions.

Watch You won't believe how Easter chicks live (youtube)

In the shocking footage chicks can be seen gasping for breath, crushed beneath the unnatural weight of their own bodies. Many can be seen with severe ammonia burns to their skin since their only place to rest is the feces-soaked floor where the dead are simply left to rot.

In the spirit of Easter, In Defense of Animals would like you to help us welcome Luna & Minerva to our ever growing family. At just three weeks old, and already the size of an adult, both chicks were rescued from a life that was destined to be brutal and short.

Despite scientific research which suggests that chickens experience pain and suffering as we do, they are still subject to cruel and horribly unnatural conditions in order for them to grow as large as they can be, as fast as possible, for as little money as possible. All without regard to the ever increasing misery and torture that comes with it.

This Easter holiday season, please make the compassionate choice and skip the chicken on your plate and instead opt for a delicious, healthy plant-based option...for Minerva, for Luna, and for billions of other unfortunate chickens like them.
