The most commonly used species in NZ for research, testing and teaching
purposes during 2017 and 2018 may surprise you!
The most used species in 2017: FISH
In total, 101,167 fish were used and 82% of these animals died or were
euthanised (~82,956 animals).
Most fish were tormented for "basic" biological research, with other main uses being teaching, environmental management, species conservation and animal husbandry.
