Spring 2014
In Memoriam

Barbara Larson passed away on January 28, 2014 in Saugerties, NY.

Barbara worked at the Catskill Game Farm for almost 30 years. When they closed down and auctioned off the animals, she sobbed along with the animal advocates who were there to rescue as many as they could. It was Barbara who told Wildlife Watch of the three African lions, black leopard, and three mountain lions desperately in need of saving. She also gave us information that allowed us to find the perfect person to transport these formidable passengers across the country.

We will always remember Barbara for the help she gave us, and her extreme compassion for the many animals she raised there. If not for her loving care and hand rearing of many of the individuals, there would have been even more misery. Barbara’s husband, Ken, helped to save many.

The large cats went to the Wildcat Sanctuary in Sandstone, MN, the potbellies went to Pets Alive, and the cows went to the Catskill Animal Sanctuary in Saugerties, NY. Additionally, many others went to various sanctuaries: Foster Parrots in Rhode Island, Sunnyskies Bird and Animal Sanctuary in Warwick, NY, and The Tusk and Bristle in Constantia, NY.
