Response to letter referencing Biblical scripture
Re: Kill The Bears... And deer and rabbits
12 September 2007
Dear M.D. Yandach:
Thank you for contacting the Committee to Abolish Sport Hunting.
In your message to us, you wrote: "God put them on earth to feed
humans. He even designed our tooth structure to consume meat. So it it
written... so it shall be done."
If you look at our teeth you will see that they more closely resemble
those of horses and cows (strict herbivores) than they do cats and
sharks (strict carnivores).
And while I am not a Biblical scholar by any means, I do know that
the Bible says "Behold, I have given you every herb-yielding seed which
is upon the face of all the earth, and every tree that has seed-yielding
fruit -- to you it shall be for food." (Gen.1:29) Where the Bible first
mentions what we should eat, it does not mention animals or animal
products.
I don't claim to know whether or not there is a God, but I do know
that wildlife is terribly exploited by state hunting agencies and that
exploitation is done for profit. That's wrong, and it is something that
we intend to stop.
We understand that many people do not share our opinion when it comes
to sport hunting, trapping and the role state and federal wildlife
agencies play in creating many of the problems associated with wildlife.
We hope that in time, as you continue to read The C.A.S.H. Courier and
website, you will change your opinion and come to share our views.
Sincerely,
Joe Miele
