In this year's opening weekend accidents:
A 38-year-old man was part of a 16-person deer drive Saturday in Juneau
County when he suffered a fatal gunshot wound to the neck. A 47-year-old
hunting companion fired the fatal shot after a deer ran between them.
A 35-year-old man was hunting from a tree stand Sunday in Rock County
when the stand, which was in poor condition, began to tilt. The man's
shotgun went off and struck him in the upper right thigh, killing him.
A 45-year-old man shot himself in the foot Saturday in Shawano County
when he placed the muzzle on his boot to wipe raindrops from the lens of his
telescopic sight.
A 22-year-old man was trailing an injured deer Sunday in Pepin County
when a 41-year-old hunter fired twice at a deer. A bullet severed the
22-year-old man's right index finger and almost severed another finger.
