GRAIN VALLEY, Mo. -- A weekend hunting accident sent two men to the
hospital with gunshot wounds.
Jackson County sheriff's deputies said that the men were out turkey
hunting near Grain Valley when another hunter apparently mistook them
for turkeys and opened fire.
The wounded men got out of the woods and called 911 for help.
Authorities were searching for evidence when another phone call
came in.
"It's our understanding the shooter actually called in and said he
was aware of the situation and knew what happened and told us where he
lived and told us he would show us what happened and where he was. At
that point, we came and talked to him and realized he was involved in
the incident," Deputy Ronda Montgomery said.
Investigators said that both men will recover. One of the men, a
20-year-old from Oak Grove, may lose an eye, officials said. The
second victim's condition was not available.
Deputies did not release the names of the men and no charges have
been filed. The shooting remains under investigation.
