A man is in custody after a La Crosse teen was shot to death while
on a hunting trip in Monroe County on Saturday.
Monroe County Sheriff Peter Quirin tells News 19, the suspect is
originally from Milwaukee, but recently moved up to Monroe County.
Quirin would not release the suspect's name, but he did say he is
expected to be charged with homicide on Tuesday.
The name of the victim is also being withheld, but Quirin tells
News 19 that he was taking pictures in the woods off Abbottsford
Avenue in Little Falls, Wisconsin when the shooting occurred. He was
part of a hunting group, but he was not armed at the time. Quirin says
initial investigation reveals that the victim did not know the
suspect.
The death was discovered after the victim's family called the
Sheriff's department Saturday night because they could not find the
teen. The Sheriff's department then took search dogs out to the woods
and found the teen just before 10pm Saturday night.
The State Crime Lab took the victim's body to Madison for an
autopsy.
