A Nevada man suffered a leg wound while hunting in Clay County over
the weekend, the Clay County Sheriff’s Department said.
The Detroit Lakes (Minn.) Police Department notified the sheriff’s
office of the incident at 2:34 p.m. Saturday, the sheriff’s office
said. Detroit Lakes police were notified by St. Mary’s Hospital in
Detroit Lakes that a male was brought there with a gunshot wound to
the leg.
Detroit Lakes police said the incident apparently happened in
Tansem Township, six miles east of Barnesville.
The sheriff’s office identified the victim as Larry Scheffler, 55,
of Henderson. Scheffler, who was treated and released from St. Mary’s,
said he was sitting in his deer stand when he heard a shot and felt a
bullet in his right leg. He was taken to the hospital by others in his
hunting party.
The incident remains under investigation.
