BY JACOB GRANT, Staff Writer

- PEACHAM -- A Danville man was killed early Sunday evening in an apparent hunting accident in Peacham.

State police said Chad Lumbra, 23, died after a gun accidentally discharged into his hip while he was hunting with a friend.

At about 5:15 p.m., state police and the Fish and Game Department responded to a field off East Hill Road in Peacham. The emergency call came from the home of Ross Page on Thaddeus Stevens Road.

Police said Lumbra was taken by Danville Rescue to Northeastern Vermont Regional Hospital in St. Johnsbury, where he was later pronounced dead.

Scanner reports indicated Lumbra was hunting with a friend and that the shooting was accidental. Reports also indicated that police said Lumbra was shot in the hip with a .30-06 rifle and there was no exit wound.

The name of Lumbra's hunting companion was not released.

The St. Johnsbury Fire Department and CALEX Ambulance Service also responded to the scene.

An autopsy will be conducted at the the Chief Medical Examiner's Office in Burlington.

The investigation is being conducted by Vermont State Police Bureau of Criminal Investigation, assisted by the Vermont Department of Fish and Game. Police said further information will be made available as the investigation progresses.
