BEAVER COVE -- Wardens are investigating the death of a 55-year-old
New Gloucester man who died of an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound
while hunting in Piscataquis County.
The Maine Warden Service said Ernest L. Russell III went hunting by
himself on Prong Pond Mountain in Beaver Cove Township shortly after
noon on Saturday, the final day of deer hunting season.
When he didn't return, his wife notified officials.
Wardens located Russell's vehicle by activating its OnStar emergency
notification system, and then followed tracks in the snow to locate
Russell.
