HAMPTON — A father-and-son hunting trip led to a son accidentally
shooting his father with buckshot in the posterior Saturday afternoon,
according to state police.
Kevin Cooke, 46, of Lafayette, was out hunting in the area of the
Paulinskill Valley Trail in Hampton for youth hunting day with his son, 13.
He was walking in front of his son when his son, whose name was not released
by police, accidentally pulled the trigger on his shotgun and shot his
father in the right buttocks, police said. State police received the call at
12:47 p.m.
State Police Detective Brian Polite said Cooke was flown to Morristown
Memorial Hospital and that his injuries were “non-life threatening.”
The state Division of Fish and Wildlife and New Jersey State Park Police
assisted at the scene.
There were no charges filed, as the incident was an accident, Detective
Polite said.
