Man shot in foot Monday in apparent hunting accident

A Lake St. Louis man was injured Monday morning in an apparent hunting accident in Saline County, according to a Sheriff's Department report.

The 34-year-old man was taken by private vehicle to Fitzgibbon Hospital with a gunshot wound to his left foot, deputies said. He was later transferred by ambulance to a hospital in Columbia.

The man said he had been hunting with a several others in a group at a location about eight to 10 miles north of Marshall when the incident occurred, according to the report.

He told deputies he handed some shotgun shells to a hunting partner and when he placed his hand back on his gun, it discharged.

Saline County Conservation Agent Thom Davidson was notified about the incident, deputies said.
