A Russell man is dead following a hunting accident Sunday in St.
Lawrence County.
St. Lawrence County Sheriff deputies say 49-year old Paul Hatch
died of a gunshot wound to the chest while he was hunting off the
Fordham Hill Road in the town of Russell just before 5 p.m. Sunday.
His hunting companion, 20-year old Tyler Soper of Edwards, told
deputies he shot at what he thought was a wounded deer, but hit
Hatch instead.
Hatch was taken to Canton-Potsdam Hospital, where he was
pronounced dead on arrival.
The sheriff's department and state Department of Environmental
Conservation officers are investigating.
