BLADEN COUNTY, NC (WECT) – A 21-year-old man was shot while deer hunting outside of Clarkton on Monday.

Wesley White was struck while hunting with a club of 10-15 people off Twisted Hickory Road around 10:50 a.m., according to Officer CP White with the North Carolina Wildlife Resources Commission.

The shooter, a 16-year-old female whose name is not being released, was approximately 100 yards away from White and had limited visibility. A deer reportedly ran across the shooter’s path and she fired twice, hitting White in his right thigh.

White was treated for his injuries and released. The incident is under investigation.

It is unclear at this time if the shooter had taken hunter safety courses.
