SIGEL TOWNSHIP — A 54-year-old Roseville man was seriously injured after he fell 18 feet from a deer blind in the Verona State Game Area on Saturday afternoon.
According to the Huron County Sheriff’s Office, deputies were called around 12:38 p.m. to the scene on Philip Road, a half mile east of Verona Road.

Deputies were able to remove hunter Matthew P. Schafer and transport him to Huron Medical Center.
Once Schafer was stabilized, he stated that he was hunting in a tree stand and fell to the ground while trying to exit the stand, landing on his back.

He said he had lowered his bow to the ground and had just taken off his safety harness to climb down the tree and slipped just two rungs down the ladder.
