MCGREGOR
A deer hunter from Wisconsin is charged by Clayton County
authorities with hunting without a license, hunting illegally with a rifle,
using artificial light and eluding police.
Leonard Waters Junior, of Eastman Wisconsin, was arrested in northeast
Iowa near McGregor after deputies and conservation officers -- using a
police dog -- tracked him down Wednesday night.
Waters was treated for minor injuries he sustained after falling across a
barbed wire fence.
Clayton County deputies say Waters told them he tried to shoot a deer
with his rifle. Iowa only allows deer hunting with shotguns, muzzle loaders
and bows and arrows.
He was also charged by Winneshiek County with second-degree burglary.
