Felon charged in illegal hunting
November 26, 2007
Fallsburg - A felon spent part of yesterday drinking and illegally
luring deer to a South Fallsburg development so he could kill them, town
police said.
A report of a man illegally hunting brought town police, state police
and Department of Environmental Conservation police to the area at about
4:30 p.m.
There, town police said, they found Frank Solberg, 56, of South
Fallsburg, along with a bait pile, a dead deer Solberg had no permit to
kill and a rifle Solberg wasn't supposed to have because of a felony
conviction - all within 500 feet of neighboring homes.
Solberg faces an array of misdemeanors: criminal possession of a
weapon, reckless endangerment, discharging a firearm with 500 feet of a
dwelling, hunting big game intoxicated and having a blood-alcohol
content of .10 percent or more, taking an antlerless deer without a
valid permit and taking a deer with the aid of a pre-established bait
pile.
He was held at Sullivan County Jail in lieu of $2,500.
