Three people were recently charged with night hunting by State Game
Warden Luke Lemley.
The three - one from Decatur and two from Courtland - were charged
with hunting deer at night, hunting from a public road, "and a few other
charges."
Lemley caught them on the west side of Jackson County. Assistance was
provided by the Jackson County Sheriff's Department and Scottsboro
Police Department.
Jackson is one of the largest counties in North Alabama. Officer
Lemley is the only game warden assigned as a field officer in Jackson
County. Lt. Jim Kirkland assists in the field, but is also a supervisor
for six counties including Jackson. Assistance is also provided by the
Alabama Marine Police, Jackson County Sheriff's Department and local
police departments.
Violations can be reported by calling the Department of
Conservation's Operation Game Watch at 1-800-272- GAME (4263) or the
District II Enforcement Officer at 256-435-1642.
The three were apprehended on December 31, 2007. The charges are
misdemeanors.
