Hunter illegally kills deer, didn't want meat to go to waste

December 09, 2010

A hunter whose license, quota and management area permits were all expired was cited by the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission after he shot and killed a female deer.

The FWC officer was on patrol near a public dove field on Beaver Creek Road in Santa Rosa County when he heard a gun shot. The officer saw three flashlights moving toward two parked trucks.

The officer made contact with three men, one of which was dragging a deer toward one of the trucks. The man dragging the deer said he made a mistake and shot the female as it was running with a young deer and didnít want to waste the meat.

He was cited for the violation and his gun and the deer were seized.
