(Cohotate Preserve 8 March 2002 Field Trip - 20) The horizontal lines on the bark of this tree lead us to believe that this is a black birch with two burls projecting from the west side of the trunk. These wart-like growths are sliced to make a veneer known as "burlwood veneer".
