1. The Reality of the Meat Market

Kristof writes an excellent piece on the devastating consequences of raising chickens, cows and pigs for food. He exposes the massive production of meat by a handful of corporations who have managed to make much profit from the abuse of animals, unhealthy meats and environmental devastation.

Please visit The Unhealthy Meat Market.

Eating animals comes with devastating consequences for all of God’s Creation. Eating animals must become a thing of the past. The present must be lived mindfully taking into account the future of those who come after us.

2. Famous Quote

We do not inherit the earth from our ancestors, we borrow it from our children.

- Native American Proverb

3. Global Warming Affects Humans, Too

Many people think that global warming affects mainly species of animals that live in cold regions where the ice is melting; however, the danger of climate change is very real for humans as well. Scientists predict we’ll suffer increased violence, water shortages, more diseases and bigger wealth gap (poor will be poorer).

Please visit Big climate report: warming is big risk for people.

Global warming is a threat we can no longer ignore. And animal agriculture being a greater producer of greenhouse gases than the entire transportation sector is an industry that needs to go away and be replaced with a compassionate, sustainable one. However, the animal agriculture industry is going to stay put unless consumers stop supporting it. Change begins with each of us.

4. Bible Verse

(RSV) 1 Peter 1:3

Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ! By his great mercy we have been born anew to a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead,…

On Sunday we celebrated the good news of the resurrection of Jesus. Easter, a season of hope and joy should encourage us to partaking of meals that symbolize exactly that: hope and joy, not desperation and suffering.
Let’s all spread the good news by sharing plant-based, compassionate, joyous and peaceful meals.

5. Amazon Forest in Danger

The results of a study carried out by the University of Maryland, Google and the United States government indicates that we are losing the equivalent of 50 soccer fields of forest every minute. Very sadly, the rate of deforestation in the Amazon rain forest increased 28% between 2012 and 2013, mainly for growing crops in its place.

Please visit Losing Ground in the Amazon.

Forests are the lungs of our planet and home to innumerable species of fauna and flora. Factory farming helps drive deforestation worldwide, including the Amazon rain forest, because of the need for space for cattle grazing and also to grow crops for cattle feed. Therefore, taking a stand against deforestation requires a commitment to eat sustainable foods and to avoid animal products.
