Pennsylvania sportsmen's club fined for animal cruelty

Some of you remember the heartless event that took place at the Elstonville Sportsmen's Association in Pennsylvania earlier this year where live turkeys were shot with bows and arrows during a contest.

Fortunately, this sportsmen’s club was fined US$50 for each of the eight violations they were found guilty of, totaling a fine of US$400; thus, setting a precedent that "Anyone seeking to gain amusement from the torture of innocent creatures will be prosecuted and brought to justice," according to Keith Mohler of Farm Sanctuary, which campaigns against cruelty to farm animals.

While a fine of US$400 seems minimal, the fact that a gutless act of cruelty against animals was brought to justice shows that God's animals shouldn't be treated as commodities. Unfortunately, the widespread legal abuse of animals in factory farms only perpetrates the wrong idea that some animals, such as turkeys, cows and pigs exist solely for human benefit.
