Wendy’s Pressured to Use Cage-free Eggs
HSUS kicked off a national campaign
urging Wendy's to purchase cage-free eggs. Earlier this year, Burger
King and McDonalds pledge to reduce their use of battery-caged hens'
eggs. Wendy's International Inc. operates about 6,600 restaurants in
the United States and doesn't want to look into cage-free eggs at
the moment but is willing to work with animal welfare experts on
different cruelty-free guidelines. Paul Shapiro, senior director of
the factory farming campaign at the HSUS reminded that “Cage-free
doesn't mean cruelty free, but it's a step in the right direction.”

Battery-caged hens suffer pain,
fear and confinement and industries that purchase eggs produced this
way support cruelty.
Once again compassionate consumers
can make a great deal of difference in the life of egg-laying hens
by substituting eggs with a compassionate plant-based alternative or
at least buying truly cage-free eggs (as it can be a misleading
term). It is important to remember that no matter where the eggs
come from, the hens are ultimately killed once their egg-production
decreases nonetheless.
