On the day the Catholic Church
marks its annual Save Creation Day, Pope Benedict addressed a crowd
of approx. 300,000 people and encouraged them to take action to save
the planet. He said, “Courageous choices that can re-create a strong
alliance between men and earth must be made before it’s too late.”

Transitioning to a plant-based diet
would help restore the environment, given that this diet makes use
of fewer resources, contributes to reduce green house gases, reduces
soil and water contamination, as well as the use of hormones and
antibiotics in farmed animals. Church leaders should encourage their
followers to adopt a vegetarian diet as a way to help the planet.
