Treating God’s Animals Better Makes Sense

Josh Balk, director of food policy at the Humane Society of the United States, writes an excellent piece in “The Christian Science Monitor” explaining why treating animals with compassion makes sense, of course, from an ethical perspective and also from an economic perspective.  Balk highlights the new changes taking place thanks to consumers who have the power to influence corporations by voting with their wallets, and also recognizes that we still have much to improve.

Although the only way to make sure God’s animals are treated humanely is by allowing them to live their lives free from human exploitation and therefore not raising them for food, any step in the right direction is a good step.
Every person has to eat and every time we purchase food we vote for compassion or cruelty. When we choose to support companies that don’t abuse or kill God’s animals unnecessarily we are voting for those beliefs and values we embrace.
