Elaine:
But DID God provide the MEANS for reconciliation by animal sacrifice; the “means”, I suggest, is that, yes, He gave man free-will to choose, and then MAN chose to sacrifice animals, (having fallen to the coarseness of eating the creatures) and thinking to appease the “vengeful, jealous” God he’d ‘created’ – but killing of His creatures could NEVER have been God’s Will, as I see it.
Regarding the killing of the Christed, purified Jesus, I truly feel He did not die FOR man, but BECAUSE of – man’s refusal to accept His NEW teaching of Unconditional (with discipline) LOVE. Could it have been GOD’S WILL that this perfected man, His son, be sacrificed – killed?
Obviously, Jesus knew man could not yet rise to the concept of living love and forgiveness which He represented - and prayed to His Father that it may not be so –but willing to go through that spiritual agony.
I just feel that GOD HAS to BE the highest we can possibly conceive of, otherwise He is just like (even the best) HUMAN; therefore if an Old Testament interpretation conflicts with that, then, sorry, I have to question it!
Sincerely,
Noelene
