Christian Bowhunters of America
Is it really Christian?
Comment by Frank and Mary Hoffman – 1 Dec 2005

We occasionally receive letters and comments from people like Micah Riche, who try to find reason to justify their killing of animals. Why do we say justify? We’ll let Micah’s own words give us the answer, “Why do I hunt? I enjoy it, for many reasons.” So, no matter what else he says, the fact that he enjoys killing clouds any other explanation he gives.

If he was truly following the Maker’s Diet, it would be an all vegan plant based diet as described in Genesis 1:29-30, and not some other diet of his own making, which cause or contributes to the pain and suffering of other living beings.

Such people don’t want to be the blessed peacemaking sons of God that Jesus and Paul called us to be to free the whole of creation from its present pain and corruption. (Mathew 5:9 and Romans 8:18-23)

They fail to recognize the difference between the concessions God granted because of humankind’s hardness of heart, and the creation and heavenly will of God. They cannot find their justification in the heavenly will of God for there is no death in heaven, so they seek to be like the disobedient people of the Bible, and use what they did as excuses and supposed justification of their desire and pleasure of killing.

They try to use the old Hebrew sacrificial system as a parallel to their killing. They fail to recognize that Jesus was the last sacrifice, and that God said that obedience is better than sacrifice (Hosea 6:6), and the way Jesus amplified this by saying, “I desire compassion (mercy), and not sacrifice (Matthew 9:13).

They say that God enjoys the smell of roasting and burning flesh, but they fail to see the second part of this statement which God explained before granting the concession to eat meat: “the intent of man’s heart is evil from his youth.” (Genesis 8:21).

To kill for pleasure or lustful desires can never be in the will of God.
