In Reference to: Saying Goodbye by Rabbi Dr. Charles H Middleburgh
I found your article on mourning pets most profound. And comforting.
I work with patients facing impending loss and their families pre- and post bereavement.
My Burmese cat died suddenly last year and I am amazed how people refer to him as "just a cat"- and with the expectation that I get over it.
Attachment to a beloved companion of 15 years is as profound with an animal as it is with a person. As you correctly say, we are all Hashem's creations.
Thank you
Joel
