Estimated number of animals experimented upon in the U.S. annually exceeds 20 million.
Even these stats do not embody animals confined for conditioning or breeding. I.E., USDA reports 57,000+ primates in labs; potential total is closer to 120,000. USDA totals don’t reflect total animals used. U.S. labs have never collectively reported totals. Species without AWA safeguards (rats, mice, birds, etc.) are not figured in at all.
