used in research by state and category of procedure:
NO PAIN, NO DRUGS: 577,885
WITH PAIN/NO DRUGS: 73,640
WITH PAIN/WITH DRUGS: 382,298
Numbers do NOT reflect total animals used.
For example, USDA lists 1,542 facilities where “attempted inspections could not be performed because personnel were not available.”
