On October 23, 2013 a “Notice of Reinstatement of Suspension” was issued to suspend the assignment of inspectors at The Chop Shop, Est. M44151. This action was based on your establishment’s failure to handle livestock humanely according to 9 CFR Part 313. On October 25, 2013, you provided your first response which included an improved head catch and a stunning procedure. Additional information was requested for the Stunning section that could not be completed until the newly installed equipment was in operation and tested. Also, questions were asked about whether the correct stunning equipment for the classes of animals slaughtered was correct and a training roster was requested to demonstrate that employees were trained. On October 31, 2013, you submitted a second response which included a statement that was unclear regarding explanation that animals will only be shackled, hoisted, cut and bled after an animal is made insensible. Also, a statement concerning the location of the mark to be made on an animal’s head shall be consistent with industry standards was requested.
