Amongst the intended news items were two motivational tales: The Weight of a Snowflake "Tell me the weight of a snowflake," said the robin to the dove. With that the robin flew away. The dove thought about the story and
said to herself, "I sometimes think that my efforts and the little I can
do make no difference. We might think they are nothing at all, but if we
put all our efforts together great things are possible." It makes a difference As the old man walked the beach at dawn, he noticed a young man ahead
of him picking up starfish and slinging them into the sea. Finally
catching up with the youth, he asked him why he was doing this. The
answer was that the stranded starfish would die if left until the
morning sun. "But the beach goes on for miles and there are millions of
starfish" countered the older man. "How can your effort make any difference?" The young man looked at the starfish in his hand and then threw it to safety in the waves. "It makes a difference to this one" he said. Return to FoL Newsletter excerpts by Clare and Tom Harral (1991 - 2001) |
