"Love and compassion lie at the heart of all religions and spiritual teachings. The Jain religion states that 'Ahimsa - non-injury to living beings - is the highest religion'. A truly Green theology must be developed that is holistic, compassionate, at peace with nature, liberating and life-enhancing to all creatures and creation, and characterised by a sense of our intrinsic connectedness and interdependence with all forms of life. From the Hopi Indians to Taoism we are told that we must live in balance with nature. Whatever our religious or spiritual path, the world situation challenges us to unite in a new vision and a new spiritual ecology through which we learn to honour the earth and all the beings who inhabit it as an expression of our love for the Creator. We live in such a materialistic society and on an earth made very sick. We need a spiritual dimension in our lives, and this will help empower us in our efforts to ease suffering and heal the planet. And let us not forget Chief Seattle's wisdom that 'the earth does not belong to us: we belong to the earth." Go on to 1993 - FoL Newsletter excerpts by Clare and Tom
