Sir, - It is sad that the new revised Second Book of Canon Law ignores the previous prohibition on priests taking part in "clamorous" hunts. It seems that - particularly in Ireland - priests bring the Church into disrepute by attending the vile sport of live hare coursing. Even so, surely the prohibition upon them of "attending indecorous spectacles" will rule out the coursing meet? The RSPCA has described live hare coursing as "a vicious and decadent sport" and "an evil blot on this country." Gwendolen Barter The Universe (14/4/72) Return to Letters |
