ARCHBISHOP John Aloysius Ward should be congratulated for his thought-provoking sermon on animal welfare at St. David's Cathedral, September 28, 1997. In view of the atrocious scale of animal abuse that exists in our society, with factory farming etc, it is strange that the church as a whole is so reticent on these issues. Christ upset the religious applecart of his day by revealing God's infinite love for all, at a time when orthodox Jewry wished to keep it amongst themselves. In their rare, but commendable sermons on animal welfare, churchmen and women are merely extending a process which Christ began. South Wales Echo (2/10/97) Return to J. M.
