Christ imparted the sorrowful knowledge that the poor will always be
amongst us. Whilst human suffering is almost entirely human in origin,
animals are also afflicted through our lack of integrity, concern and
wisdom. Is it therefore reasonable to imply that all animal cruelty, neglect
and misery, should "take a back seat" until every human ill has been
eradicated? It is a condition of the fallen world order that whilst we suffer
alongside our animal fellows, mercy is never wasted. Rather than seek to
subvert our debt to God's animals, a full Christian presence in the
world can only be characterised by charity; whomever the victim in life. The Universe |
