I applaud Mrs Schofield's suggestion (2 Aug) that practising
Christians should voice more strongly their belief that God created
all living things and her request for an 'Environment Sunday' in the
Church's year.
In the light, however, of the continual suffering of animals from
day to day in our laboratories, in the slaughterhouses, factory
farms and even in some private homes, I would say that they should
be remembered on a daily basis and also at week day and Sunday
church services. One isolated 'Environment Sunday' is not
sufficient.
The Christian Consultative Council for the Welfare of Animals has
compiled a booklet of Intercession Hymns and Prayers for Animals,
which outlines intercessions for daily use.
