From The Church of England Newspaper Sir - Congratulations on printing Prebendary Geoffrey Lester's
opinion of fur coats. If all clergy were to follow his salutary
suggestion, the Church would make a formidable stand against both
cruelty and vanity - thus retrieving some of her lost prestige. Meanwhile, at least one "little Miss High Fashion", top model Celia
Hammond of "Beauty Without Cruelty" has refused to wear real furs. Dis-criminating
women who regard the garment of shame as vulgar and barbaric, are
wearing magnificent simulation fabrics which are inspired by Nature and
leave the originals on their rightful owners. Yours Faithfully, Sir - What a courageous Rector Bath Abbey has that he dares to attack
the cruelty (often unrealised I would say) of those who wear animal fur.
It is often pleaded in defence of man's cruelty to animals that he is no
more cruel than wild nature itself. But man is the only being gifted
with the attribute of compassion, and if he hardens his heart he sins -
as animals cannot. Yours Faithfully Reproduced with thanks Return to Letters |
