The other innocents The news that the ships destined for baby seal slaughter off Newfoundland were blessed in ecumenical service filled me with horror and sadness. I can only hope that the Catholic Church will in no uncertain terms dissociate itself from this action which has nothing to do with Christianity. Failing this, the next logical step would be for the Church to disown some of its greater Saints. Also some passages of the Scriptures will have to be rewritten. For example Wis. 11:22 - 12:2 "You are merciful to all because you love all that exists" or Ps.144:8-9, 15-18. R.v.16 "How good is the Lord to all, compassionate to all his creatures". No wonder it is increasingly difficult to accept organised religion without criticism. G. Nicholas Vecsey Return to 'Catholic Herald'
