Letter from Jenny Moxham about the egg industry

If we buy eggs, were part of cruel industry
Bendigo Advertiser - Mar 24 2008

To the Editor:

At Easter time many people send out cards displaying images of fluffy, yellow chicks - symbolic of new life. Somewhat ironic when you consider that the vast majority of those sending the cards are - albeit unwittingly - responsible for snuffing out the lives of countless numbers of these adorable babies. Since half the chicks hatched for the egg industry are males - and thus useless for egg production - they are cruelly annihilated by suffocation, gassing or liquidising in giant blenders. If we buy eggs, this is what we are responsible for.
