I thought you'd like to know about Pippa's vegan diet!
Our little dog Pippa has been gravely ill for the past 3 months. She is a Maltese Cross miniature Poodle, aged 14 who we rescued when she was 6 months old.
Now aged 14, and weighing 4 kilograms, she is very frail and has diabetes
and Cushings disease.
Pippa has been in Intensive Care and admitted to 3 Animal Hospitals in the
past 3 months.
Pippa has lived her entire life on dry, Vegan food, and in the past 4 years on V Dog (V Planet is their international brand name).
While in hospital, she wouldn’t eat at all. She just lay on her side with a glazed look in her eyes. The wonderful nursing staff fed her by hand, using a syringe.
Due to Covid, we could not go into the hospital, so we sat in the car park all day and the nurses would speak to us through the window.
We prepared ourselves for the worst.
The hospital fed her a diet of fish, chicken etc made into a slurry. She improved a little bit but was lethargic, flopped on the floor after taking a few paces, and slept a lot.
The hospital gave us a box of food that they recommended. None of it was vegan.
We have her on a strict regime of medication.
Trix gives her 2 insulin injections every day, and she has a sensor embed under her shin linked to our phone and the vet hospital which remotely monitors her 24/7.
Trix decided to invent her own recipe to replace the non-vegan food given
to us by the hospital.
This is it.
We are delighted to say that Pippa has put on weight, and now scampers around the house – demanding a walk to the park every morning.
