This is the second successful lawsuit brought by the wild bison advocacy groups to advance Endangered Species Act protection for the Distinct Population Segment of Yellowstone bison.

West Yellowstone, Montana - U.S. District Court Judge Randolph D. Moss issued an order today siding with Buffalo Field Campaign, Western Watersheds Project, and the advocacy group’s attorneys, Friends of Animals, who sued the U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service for unlawfully dismissing evidence Yellowstone bison may warrant protection under the Endangered Species Act.

This is the second successful lawsuit brought by the wild bison advocacy groups to advance Endangered Species Act protection for the Distinct Population Segment of Yellowstone bison.

Judge Moss ordered a “remand” requiring the U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service to reconsider its 90-day finding as quickly as practicable. An affirmative 90-day finding would then compel the U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service to undertake a 12 month species status review, a comprehensive look at all factors that threaten or endanger Yellowstone bison.
